How to use CGode Shift

One gesture converts any file: hold Shift, drag, drop on an action. Try it below, then learn every trick.

Install and start

CGode Shift runs quietly in the background.

  1. Run the installer. CGode Shift starts and opens its main window.
  2. Look for its icon near the clock (system tray). It keeps working while the window is closed.
  3. In Settings you can make it start with Windows, so the gesture is always ready.

Shift-drag a file

Works in File Explorer and on the desktop, with one file or many.

  1. Press and hold Shift.
  2. Start dragging a file (or several selected files). A round menu appears right at your cursor.
  3. Keep dragging onto an action, like Convert or Compress, and let go.
  4. The new file appears next to the original. Your original is never changed.

Pick an exact option on the outer ring

Each action has choices, like the format or quality.

  1. While dragging, rest on an action for a moment. The outer ring opens with its options, for example PNG, JPG, WEBP or PDF for Convert.
  2. Drop on an option for exactly that result, or on the action itself for the most common choice.
  3. The menu only shows actions that make sense for the files you're dragging.

What it can do

Every file type has its own set of actions.

Images

PNG, JPG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO. Convert, compress, resize (presets, 2× upscale, custom), crop, rotate or flip, grayscale, invert, white background, strip metadata. Merge into a PDF, GIF, slideshow, side-by-side, stacked or grid.

Video

MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI. Convert (also to GIF or audio), compress by quality or to fit 25, 10 or 8 MB, trim, resize, crop, rotate, extract audio, mute, normalize loudness, speed 0.25×–4×, thumbnail, contact sheet, frames, join clips.

Audio

MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, OPUS. Convert, compress, trim, normalize, louder or quieter, fade, mono, reverse, speed, join.

PDF

To PNG, JPG, text or Word. Merge PDFs and pictures, split every page or pick pages, rotate, compress (lossless or strong).

Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Convert to PDF, DOCX, ODT, TXT, HTML, XLSX, CSV, PPTX and more. Uses Microsoft Office or LibreOffice if installed.

Anything

Zip any files and folders, and extract .zip files.

Crop and trim with a visual editor

For precise jobs, CGode Shift opens a small editor.

  1. Choose Crop › Visual editor on an image to draw the crop box yourself, or pick a ratio like 1:1 or 16:9.
  2. Choose Trim › Visual editor on a video or song to set the start and end on a timeline.
  3. Click Save, and the trimmed or cropped copy is created next to the original.

Other ways to start

Prefer the keyboard or right-click? Those work too.

  1. Shortcut: select files in File Explorer and press Ctrl+Alt+C. The menu opens at your cursor; click an action.
  2. Right-click: turn on Convert with CGode Shift in Settings, then right-click files. On Windows 11 it's under Show more options.
  3. Main window: drop files into the window, or click to browse, then pick an action.

Find your results

Every job is tracked.

  1. New files are saved next to the originals, with a clear name like holiday-photo.webp.
  2. Activity in the main window shows progress for big jobs such as videos.
  3. Click a finished job to jump straight to the file in File Explorer. A notification tells you when it's done.

Settings

Open the main window from the tray icon and go to Settings.

  1. Start with Windows, so the Shift-drag gesture always works.
  2. Output folder: keep results next to originals, or send them to one folder.
  3. Right-click menu, notifications, and light or dark theme.

Everything runs on your PC. FFmpeg and the PDF engine are built in, so CGode Shift works offline and never uploads your files.
